[OOC] This is an unfinished tale of the bravery and combat that took place during the final eviction of Paxton Federation where they fought often outnumbered and with a determination that has to be recomended. Local held likke smack and lots of GF’s. The story was never finished as I took a small break from EvE shortly after due to RL stuff. Nothing major, just life catching up every now and then :) Who knows if I will ever finish it, but The loader is still part of the crew and is still operating the guns of various ships.

Enjoy what little was written…

The sweat ran down the mans forehead and mixed with blood comming from a small scar above the left eye. It lingered for a brief moment in his eyebrow before a small pearl broke loose and ran down the nose. Four more reddish pearls ran down the nose and formed a drop that spilled to the floor. Next to the small pool of sweat and blood on the floor was 56 Null L charges. There would be no second loading of the longrange special ammo. Most of the Federation Navy Antimatter was gone as well and last resort would be a pile of 2300 rounds of regular anti-matter that had been looted from an enemy Megatron that passed within 2,5 km. A qucik search of the wreck in the heat of battle had secured the ammunition.

He could not feel his legs and his hands was humming with the effort of keeping the blasters operational. He turned his right hand over in his lap and looked at where his middle finger once had been. He smiled at the roughness of his hand, smeared in oil and hydraulic fluid as it was. Six hours earlier he remembered his shirt had been whole and in general he had felt in better shape than his current condition.

The ship was newly build and had not seen battle. It was designed and rigged with the modules needed for closerange warfare. Next to it was a an identical hull but it had the 425mm railgun mounted. The owner of these large and powerfull ships had a full crew for the, for lack of better definition, “425mm ship”. The owner however had no crew for this blaster fitted monster.

The man looked at the que for the crew sign-up. Navigators, engineers, warp drive operators, welders, robot handlers and medical crew was all to be found waiting in line leading up to the ramp of the ship. He inhaled one more time on his handrolled cigarette, threw it away and joined the file of men and women seeking employment.

After an almost three hour wait he was at the table. The person sitting there was obviously of Caldari origin. He had heard of the Captain before. Apparently the Captain had come to Ushra’Khan as a mercenary but had for some reason overstayed his contract. Eventualy he had become a diplomat for the Ushra’Khan but besides his desk duties still performed active combat.

A personel officer was sitting next to the Captain.

“Profession?” the personnel officer asked.

“Gunner.” the man answered.

“Grade?” the personnel officer asked.

“2nd.” the man answered.

“Place your right hand in the scanner, insert your ID card in the slot and look into the eris scanner.”

The man did as told. A small needle penetrated his hand in 3 random places drawing a little blood. The blood would be checked against the ID and the eris, modelling the full dna profile vs CONCORD archives as well as internal Ushra’Khan databases.

The personnel officer looked up briefly. Their eyes met. The personnel officer raised an eyebrow and  a nod with his head indicated for the man to board the space ship.

“What was that about?” Asked the Captain.

“His DNA is almost perfect for a pod pilot and his ability to interface with a pod would work, only it would be a “wet grave” if he ever hooked up to a ship interface. This is as close you can come to being a podpilot without actually getting there. There were several cases of “wet graves” back in the old days before the gene that caused it was mapped correctly. Back then the Jovians had already manipulated their genes so it was no hindrance, but other bloodlines and races all had defects within their genepool so in fact only few can attain the podpilot status” The personnel officer explained.

“Aha, I see” The Captain said.

The man entered the briefing room and was met by the buzzing sound of hundreds of people making small talk conversation. It was a special room inside the ship that the Captain had had designed and not part of the regular layout of a Megathron battleship. The Captain liked to give a small speech to the crew explaining the political, strategic and tactical situation as well as what was expected of the crew before embarking on a mission or operation.

The man took an available seat in the gunnery section of the auditorium and prepared for the enviable wait. Hours passed as more people joined the ones that were already seated.

Finally the Captain showed up and walked to a small podium.

“We march on soldiers of the Ushra’Khan” His voice bellowed, clearly magnified by some hidden speaker system.

“Today we invade the system of MH9, the very home of Paxton Federation. PXF has for a long time stood against Ushra’Khan and its allies and is the last of the Holder alliances to hold space in Providence. The fight today is likely to draw in whatever allies they have left in the area including the still numerous CVA.”

“We will be jumping into a yet undisclosured system next to MH9 and then jump in to MH9. This will likely happen under heavy fire from the PXF/CVA fleet.”

There was a short silence as the Captain looked over the ranks.

“Yes, there will be casualties and we may go down in flame but we will try our damnest to keep ourself and our fleet buddies alive through our Remote Repair systems.”

The man did not need to be told of casualties, he knew all of it. Like a hive the individual dies to keep the fleet intact and in fighting condition.

“Once in we will engage the Ihub and reinforce this. We may ro may not be attacking a starbase to take down a cyno jammer.”

The Captian looked over the crowd and had the ability to make it seem that he looked each in the eye in turn.

“May the missiles fly straight and blasters hit true. To your stations troops.”

Everyone got up and filed out under the thunderous murmur that usually engulf a crowd where everyone chatter a little higher than the guy next to him.

The man took his station next to the blaster gun that would be his station, 9 more were at the monster blaster making up the team that would make sure the gun would run smoothly under operation. The man slipped under the metal bar and into the seat of the exo skeleton robot. He ran a quick diagnostic of the robot that encapsuled him as the big ship left the hangar. The undock point was crammed with over 100 ships trying to clear the station.

As the megathron alignd for the starbase that would be the staging point the man engaged the magnetic feet of the exo skeleton robot. It always gave a littke jerk when the robot “snatched” into place. There was ofcource the artificial gravtial field inside the ship. It was sufficient for everyday operation and could hold a person in place, but a large robot in a combat environment needed the extra grip.

The man flexed his mechanic muscles and nodded to the others around the gun. There was no need for words for two reasons. First and foremost, if people did not know what to do they would not be there. Second, the life expectancy of the gunners was low and superstition surrounded every aspect of the job. General chatter “at station” was considered bad luck. The 1st Grade gunner looked around at his team. A mechanical camera made it out for his left eye and a rather advanced mechanical arm had taken the place of his left underarm. Streaks of scared flesh covered the entirety of the left side of his face and the skin tissue of his upper left arms was a complex pattern of dark brown streaks mixed with small pools of white. The tell tale signs from an Amarrian laser breaching the hull integrity was never pretty.

There were 4 3rd grade gunners on each side commanded by the 1st grade gunner on one side and the 2nd grade gunner on the other. There were no women on the team either, again superstition was the main factor and although there were supposed to be “equality” on the ship, the personnel officers were well aware of the complications that could arise and women were consequently discarded for various fabricated reasons if they were to apply for such a position.

From the gunnery hatch the man could see the ships coming out of warp and approaching a Titan class vessel. He had not even noticed the ship entering and coming out of warp 10 kilometers from the titan. He remembered as a kid when sitting on his dads lap hearing the tales of intergalactic travels. There had always been sounds of “SWOOSH” or “SWOOOMP” and other sounds that supposedly accompanied a warp across a system. If there was a sound he had never heard it so he always mentally made the sound whenever he actually noticed the ship entering and coming out of warp.
More and more ships joined the fleet and smaller support ships had also showed up now. There was the usual wait as well as a battleship crossing shield with the titan causing the ships to rotate.

“Stand by for bridge” the voice of some relay officer sounded in his ear snail.
“This is your captain speaking. We will bridge out on a gate, jump though it and enter combat. Primary will be the deployed large bubble. Battle stations!”

Dull and slowly rotating lights started to emit a red light.

Being bridged however does make a sound or is it sensation? The feeling compares best to getting a kick in the guts and then suddenly missing the stomach and being hungry at the same time.
The ship approached the gate and jumped as soon as it got in range.

Everything went silent…

The man was dimly aware of the hull vibrating as the sensor modules powered up, readying for combat and taking in its surrounding. In an instant the ship came to life and decloaked with the rest of the fleet. The ship was hit by the active sensors of 100’s of ships, friendly and enemy alike as everyone fought to get tactical awareness. There were enough micro and radar waves crossing space to fry a medium sized animal.

“Full speed ahead. Engage the microwarpdrive. Primary the Bubble probe. Drones in bay. Align at…”

The huge guns went to work, first shot was already loaded and as soon as the sensors locked the probe the charge was fired. The hydraulic sent the ton heavy slug on its way and in one smooth motion ejected the cartridge into space.

“LOAD!” Called the 1st Grade Gunner.

A large Null slug was transported by the man and his crew, via a slider in the loft from the stock, where they were stored in huge racks, to the gun, while the 1st Grade Gunner and his team was working the hatch and hydraulic.

“LOADED!” Called the man as the hatch slammed shut.

The huge short barreled gun propelled the slug at the anchored warp probe with a force that vibrated the ship.

“LOAD!”

The sound of the shield generators was slowly rising as the Megathron came under fire from small support vessels and the generator was trying to compensate the decline in shield power. The humming became almost unbearable when max recharge rate was reached and overcome by the incoming fire.

As one more Null round went off the siren sounded alerting everyone that the shield was about to collapse. It was not ground for panic and was expected in a ship that was designed to resist attacks with it thick armor. However it did mean that there was about to be “rocking of the boat” as the crew called it, as armor hits did not have the deflective and absorbing capabilities of the shields.

“INCOMMING!”

The enemy close support closed in and engaged, their primary objective to hold our fleet in place while their main sniper fitted battleships took turkey shots from 130 km above. The shield generator humming went low and was quickly replaces by the crawling sound of nano robots swarming in to repair the damage being dealt.

The warp disrupt probe exploded in a firework that illuminated the fleet and hurt the eyes as electro pulses and waves clashed. The man could hear the explosions and estimated that the rate that the armor was hit it would hold. Another ship to the starboard was less lucky and exploded in thousand bits.

The ship yanked hard to the left and the warpcores started up.

“Stand by for close range combat” the Captains voice sounded in his ear snail.

“BRACE!”

The fleet warped directly into the enemy sniper fleet. Metal hit metal as many of ships collided and the two fleets got toe to toe.

“TARGET! FIRE ALL GUNS. ENGAGE DRONES.”

The ship gentely rocked as an enemy Brutix exploded nearby. The scan resolution finally calculated the enemy megathron that was called primary and a single volly was sent into its hull that burst into a sub gravity firework. The pace picked up as the enemy fleet tried to run away. An enemy Apocalypse glided by and the megathron send out a disruption signal that rendered it microwarp drive and warpcore useless. The man could see the heavy drones go to work on the shield as a new primary, also an apocalypse, was called. The heavy neutron blasters were ripping through the fragile armor of the sniper fitted ships. The starlit sky was illuminated by one interdiction bubble after another going up around the ships as the enemy tried to break free of the deadly embrace.

“HOLD” Shouted the 1st Grade Gunner.

Almost complete silence followed, only sound hearable was the chirping of the electronic counter sinals being emitted from the ship and the hissing as the hydraullic tubes came to rest, the guns slowly assuming their initial “safe” position.

The man had sweat run into his eyes and whiped his forehead with the back of his hand. He had seen his share of battle but not of this magnitude and not so desicive. The enemy wrecks littered the field. The heat in the gunnery section was intense and the hummidity killing.  The smell of the gun charges mixed with exhaust gasses from various machinery. A sharp smell. The smell of home to the man.

The ship turned at the order of the captain and headed for the IHUB located in the system.

“This is your captain speaking. We will land at the IHUB and create a diversion. We expect the enemy to warp in at range and take shots at us. We must remain vigilant and ready to respond to our covert-Ops probing them down.”

The man was not used to this level of information but the captain expected the crew to perform and therfore have some idea of what was about to happen.

The ship came out of warp 10 km from the IHUB and lit it up.

The man started working the machinery again as the blasters spoke the language of violence.

There I were minding my own business. I was sitting at a table doing an interview with a new possible recruit when the call came in for more pilots needed to finish the job we started on 2 days earlier. I politely concluded the interview with Murdah and headed for the POD bays. The fleet had already disembarked and were making slow progress towards Paye.

Being slowly lowered into the ship I smiled. It had been a while since I joined the Ushra’Khan that Ive had time for real Battleship work. Obligations have kept most of my activities to running Kari pipe interdiction.

The crew was exhalted too and some even were singing as the ship raced to catch up with the main fleet. I used the well laid out AAA Jumpbridge system and managed to get in touch with the main fleet just as they jumped into Keberz.

12:37 Catching up with Fleet.

As we moved trough the CONCORD partolled space I noticed I had two wingmen I seemed to warp in unison with every time. Eleniel Octere in her Apocalypse and Pete X in his Tempest. Only one of us would be in our original ship at the end of the day. Once again we made a quick stop in Agil for supplies before we moved off again. Ugleb was in his Phoon next to me and leading the fleet was Sapphrine in a Rokh.

Witout any events we eventualy reached our destination and opened fire on the declawed Starbase, which Sylph once again did not feel like defending.

At one point a manticore started to move toward the edge of the shield. “SPIKE AND RESOLUTION” I called over the intercom. “Loading” came the swift reply from the munitions master shortly followed by the electronic engineer that informed that the sensor boosters were re-calibrated for fast locking.

The manticore slip out from the shield and started a slow turn. “KAZUNG” sounded the 425mm guns as the recoil was absorbed by the hydraulic and the manticore took a single shell that simply went right through shield, armor and hull. I don’t know why he opted to slow boat out instead of warping off and cloaking. Considering the ammunition he has loaded I can only guess he was newly trained as the manticore has a perfectly good missile subsystem that support kinetic damage dealing weapons.

I resumed shooting the Starbase and watched as Akikio’s Raven painted trails of fire with his cruisemissiles.

Not long after the Starbase exploed and the plillaging began with low life and scavengers warping in under the protection of CONCORD.

We lifted some  modules and left while blowing up some of the modules so the scavengers did not get them.

When we were satisfied we formed up and prepared for the return home. Rumor was that AAA were engaging CVA forces in the system of 2J. Although heavily outnumbered the 90 ship strong AAA fleet had already traded shots with the more than double size hostile fleet but had to pull out eventualy as numbers in these kinds of battles are a quality in their own respect.

Sapphrines voice sounded over the fleet channel: “Pilots, AAA is engaged in 2J and have tried to take down the cyno jammer. They number 90 ships and are facing a 200+ Providence fleet. Ushra’Khan will hook up with AAA and even the numbers.”

A quick look at our fleet of 75 ships meant that roughly 165 of ours would be facing around 210 of theirs. Acceptable odds.

Our fleet started to make best speed towards Agil and HED-. It became apparent that we were unable to hook up with AAA in 2J- so AAA bridged in a Titan for us to use, meaning we would land in F4R and get into propper sniper ships.

We got ready in ZXIC-7 while AAA got in position on the ZXIC gate in 2J.

At 15:15 the AAA fleet warped in on the ZXIC gate and Ushra’Khan jumped in as CVA landed.

We waited with backheld breath, waiting for the sensors to recalibrate. Overview cleared and the hostiles ships loaded on the screen. An unluckyship made a wrong turn and lost the jump-in cloak.

Bubbles went up, alignment commands were called and the space were filled with death a destruction. Ugleb had changed from his Phoon into a sniper tempest that lasted 10 second under the immense fire laid upon it. My ship took a full 45 seconds to calibrate before I got in on the target calling and took down the first ship to fall victim to my 425mm guns.

The fleet commander was frantic screaming for interdictors to bubble the hostile fleet as they warped out as soon as they took damage where as the Ushra’Khan fleet only could stick it out as we were bubbled and being picked off.

I got tackled by a rifter and feared I would be called primary but as luck would have it the combination of my Warrior II drones and Harlequin D’Earth in his Hurricane made short work of it. With nothing better to do I send my drones after a Stealth Bomber.

“CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE” Amith Silvermoon yelled proclaiming the arrival of the Ushra’Khan light skirmish fleet that charged at the enemy !

For 15 minutes the fight swayed back and forth as the fleets fought for supremacy. I saw hostile Brutix micro warp driving towards a sniper ship and desided that it was time for Taarn Torayson of the Paxton federation to return to his clone vat bay. It was a disregard of fleet orders as battleships are not to engage smaller ships unles specificly told to do so but if he was blaster fited he posed a treath to my fellow fleet pilots.

The result was a victory for our slightly outnumbered fleet as we held the field and took in the screnery.

Our  fleet formed up slowly. Exhaust and steam vented into space from the ships that had taken damage.

15:35 We formed up on the local AAA Starbase and regrouped. Preparing to take down the Cyno jammer located near planet 3.

We had made several warp ins on the Starbase but only managed to do insignificant damage and picking of a stragler here and there. I noticed Pete X next to my ship once again. We saluted by turning on and off the external lights on the ships.

One and a half hour later it became clear that we would not be able to take on the Providence fleet with what we got. Ushra’Khan had taken heavy losses at the ZXIC gate and Providence on the other hand had recieved reinforcements.

Last shot was fired at 16:36 at an Eos that by mistake had seperated off the main Providence fleet. I smiled as my Caldari Navy Antimatter slugs helped transform his ship into a wreck of twisted metal.

We are at a stalemate. Status is being reviewed as we currently are down to 140 ships in various degrees of working condition.

18:48 and 6 Hours of duty… This reminds me of my younger days in KIA.

The fleet commander calls a regroup at 20:00. Our fleet warps to the ZXIC gate and jumps out just as the Providence fleet bubbles us and tries to warp in on us.

They did not feel keen on entering ZXIC as no cyno jammer meant no protection from the Titans. I told my crew to get some food, rest or whatever when we were at teh Starbase.

We regroup already at 19:38 and meet up with AAA at the 2J gate. Our leet is at 200 and we are facing a Providence fleet of 350. We are ready to jump in when all of a sudden the sensors register a spike in ships.

In warps the cavalry in the shape of 100 Atlas ships making the two fleets almost equal.

19:40 The fleet jump in and hold cloak. Buggs is unlucky and gets decloaked and that sparks for the rest of the fleet to decloak so we can get reps on him. Whatever few hostiles there is not interested in engaging. I wonder why they set up all these bubbles and then utter fail to use the oppertunity of having us all unable to warp out where as they could do so and make repping runs on us.

We proceed to the Starbase we used previously. Tension is so thick you can cut in it.

We align for the hostile Starbase at Planet 3. I run diagnostics to check everything is ready. I get some misreadings. The ship is in working condition but the fihgting has taken it toll and more than once have I needed repairs from the Guardians at the friendly Starbase. You will hold, I tell it mentally.

19:49 I yell “CHARGE !!!!” and the hostile Starbase is engaged as our fleet open fire. My mind plays a tune of it own.

19:50 The fleet is in perfect order asw e start working on the Cyno jammer that has been repaired since our former battle. I take some minor damage from the defencive structures but nothing serious.

19:52 The hostile fleet warp in on us.

The battle of 2J starts and I run the procedure of locking the primary as well as reloading guns. I know that with so many ships it will take time before we are able to lock and fire and I might as well have full guns. We are a bit too spread out for my taste. things start to pace up.

(Large)

19:53 The first shots are fired as Atlas warp in at distance. Gunners are working as fast as they can.  Target calling is loud and clear as we are working our way through the hostile fleet in alphabetic order of pilot names.

(Large)

19:55 Atlas warp in and we get Providence fleet into a crossfire, bubbles go up all over the place. A ship explode next to me and I can hear the debris hitting my structure and bouncing off.

19:56 Dog fights break out as the support ships of Ushra’Khan try to clear a path for our interdictors. Many a brave crew die in the process of holding down the hostile fleet. I don’t think about the terrified crew aboard the vessels I send to the eternal scrap heaven.

19:58 I have fallen behind and must use my microwarpdrive to catch up with the main fleet and the security of remote repairing.

19:59 Providence ships have spotted my mistake of not flying formation and two tacklers engage as I release drones. I can feel the crew is anxious as the warp core reports its functionality has stopped. To my rescue comes Tizian Enel in her Hurricane and chase off the tacklers closely followed by Neridah Tanz also in a Hurricane. The gruesome pair are on microwarpdrive and spew death at the smaller ships that are hindering the battleship fleets movement. I send them a silent thank you as I catch up with the fleet.

20:05 Providence fleet start to break and our fleetcommander is screaming for interdictors. There are plenty on the field just not in a condition to bubble anything. The Providence fleet is shattered all over and are being chased down as fleet coercion is lost.

20:08 Providence fleet is chased of the field and we hold it.

20:11 Starbase cyno jammer reengaged and we consider the battle won. Little do we know that Pandemic Legion has decided to come out and play making up for the providence losses. Ushra’Khan support ships are redirected to meet this new threat as the main fleet continue to engage the cyno jammer.

20:18 Providence fleet warp back in again when they see our support has left and round two kicks off.

20:27 The fight lasts full 10 minutes as Providence fleet is chased off again. Primaries are being called and Providence takes one in the face. 10 hostile ships get caught in a bubble that is superbly placed. I have to buy a Rum to that interdictor pilot.

20:30 Back to the cyno jammer and more slugs leave my 425mm which by now are routinely feed by the gunners.

20:41 View of the field of battle as we take down the Cyno jammer

20:44 Cyno jammer goes down. War cries erupt over the internal Ushra’Khan channels.

20:57 We continue on to declawing the Starbase and shortly after we head home. I’m to tired to hit the bar though I can see some heading there.

USHRA’KHAN LEAVE THE FIELD

UNDOCK !

The order came clear over the voice com.

In unison the Ushra’Khan fleet undocked.

Align zxic and initiate warp on my command, Sapphrines voice boomed.

The behemots of destruction slowly turned for the gate.

We were embarking on a journey to an undisclosed location. Destination had been set for HED- and there were general agreement that we would be fighting in the Catch area.

The fleet moved slowly and orderly and reached HED- without incidents. Surprise and bravado erupted when destination was revealed to be Paye. A system located in the Amarr sovereign space where CONCORD also hold jurisdiction. Some pilots uttered regret as they were on the KOS list of the Amarr empire and had to turn back, but they understood the need for secrecy and the late revelation of the target system. The fleet jumped into Keberz when a war target Harbinger were reported in the next system. We jumped a few battleships into the system when we learned he was on the other side of out gate in the hope of pushing him to us. It worked perfect and his ship landed in the middle of 60 battleships and the race started if he would be able to warp out or get locked by the much bigger ships. Just as he was getting to full speed my Megathron locked and released its payload.

As always when so many ships are in an engagement the logs cant follow up with the number of projectiles and the damage inflicted.

The fleet moved on. System after system we moved on with a quick stop in agil to make sure everyone were stocked on ammo.

A fleet is alway a majestic sight but as I started to take note of the differnt ships that made up the composition of our fleet I were if for some surprises.

Some of the ships were expensive and some directly rare. An Apocalypse Navy Issue, piloted by O Thief were mixed with Paladins and even the strange Bhaalgorn Battleship of the Bloodraiders piloted by Lord Makk were part of the fleet.

We finaly arrived at our destination and took in the place where Sylph had desided not to fight. We had hoped that Sylph would meet up for a fight with their mercenaries Privateers.

I dont have any real intel on that Privateers are indeed employed by Sylph but for some reason they declare war every time we declare war on Sylph… I find it less than a coincident.

We landed at the Starbase some distance off to take in the view and consider our options. In my eyes it did not look dangerous at all. But many of our newer pilots are not used to fighting Starbases and as such mistakes can be costly.

We started from the top and worked our way on the modules deployed to defend the Starbase, also called “declawing”. It was less than impressive. But then again the Starbase was never meant to withstand a full force attack but with good gunners it should have been able to do some damage. Sylph does not have good gunners though or at least not anyone interested in defending this Starbase.

Not long after the Starbase was reinforced and the fleet turned for home. We would be back in a day and 16 hours to finish the job.

Little did we know that this was the first uneventful shots fired in what was to turn into a prolonged battle of proportions I have only seen almost a year back…

I normally just play the game and enjoy it but I have noted a disturbing trend in EvE that only has gotten worse over the last year.

The answer is 25 !

Yes, I know Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy would have you believe otherwise but the answer is in fact 25.

25 Titans is what it takes to kill a capital ship.

The introduction of new items to the game has brought about an imbalance of epic proportions, where titans is by far the most far reaching and damaging to the game. I don’t care much about the actual numbers to be quite frank but the fact remains that 25 Titans is a very realistic possibility to come across in the combat scenario of current day EvE.

CCP has introduced an item that simply throws the balance of the game into absurdity. I know Im in the following point out an issue and give no solution, but one does not need to have a solution at hand in order to spot a problem.

The main problem I think is that CCP thinks the items they introduce are unique in their economic sense. A Titan ? Takes a very large alliance to build one. A single alliance will never own more than one or two ! Initially, yes, that was the truth but now they are actually mainstay in most alliances. You don’t buy the BPO and research it to use it one time. Mass production is the order of the day and why should it not be so ?

CCP has to accept that whatever item they introduce will eventually become mainstay.

But you have to get a character to live in that titan. Who would do that ? Well for the larger alliances that is no problem at all. If you have a character that is able to fly a Titan you simply get ISK from the alliance to go buy a new character and a funding every second month to go buy a 60 Day GTC to keep the Titan pilot active.

Have anyone noted how the GTC prices are soaring ? I’m not saying that Titans are sole to blame but to some extend the “uber” capitals are founded by GTC. This also includes motherships. The result is a constant demand for GTC from the alliances. With limited amount of GTC’s the prices goes up till the regular player can no longer spend hour upon hour in order to scrape the ISK in for his subscription. The alliances have no problem paying cause they have the income from Moons protected by the very pilots that gets their subscription payed. The looser is the average pilot.

Anyway that was a sligt detour into GTC trading, back to Titans.

The very way EvE is constructed around star gates and POSs makes their grid killing ability to the most formidable weapon in EvE. Jump in a fleet of battleships that are needed to take down the cyno jammer and facing 3 Titans the fleet is doomed. Hope you the average player out there enjoyed that ! Ohh you escaped the initial 3 doomsdays then welcome to the cyno jammer. you have to stay there for some time, not like the gate where you can get away. Boom. Did you enjoy the game ?

There is no defence. Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. You can of course lock down your own system with around the clock Titans, which is equal to, “Hey you have the very same options as we do” I can hear the larger alliances with the Titans saying. The field is level for all. But truth be told it is far from level. The only option a new player coming to EvE has is to join one of the power blocks. There are no new alliances formed that can challenge the supremacy of the Titans.

So what is left ? We all go back to empire and mine Veldspar ? We sit in a corner and whine ?

Of Course not, we each play the game to the best of our abilities and enjoyment but that does not mean that 0.0 and Titans are not a broken feature and item.

Then comes the entire problem of sovereignty and POSs which I may or may not take up.

Please CCP take these things into consideration before adding more stuff like walking in stations or adding more tech III stuff.

It has been some interesting weeks. We have made incursions at large into Providence and recently CVA and Sylph have adopted a firm convoy doctrine they seem to follow to the letter. The lone haulers have become fewer and their jumpbridges are often partolled by interceptors.

They gather in large fleets and move their Freighters in the safety of numbers.

Little safety they find in those large fleets when our ever watchfull stealth bombers dive in for another go at their fleets whereever they are found. Fighting outnumbered in small mobile forces never counting more than 20 ships we can stretch their forces and make them run in order to cover all the incursion alerts that go out.

Evolution. Evolution, action, reaction. The constant adaptation of tactics and doctrine forces both sides to be on their toes. CVA and Sylph has kept up and adapted to our new form of warfare by doing everything in convoys. We shall put their courage to the test as we unfold our capabilities of strikeing in large numbers anywhere regardless of their fleets holding the stargates. Will they still feel safe ? Will they be able to adapt ?

The usual rack pack of mercenaries, pirates and freedom fighters had gathered in the Esa system. Anticipation was high. CONCORD had announced that the virus that had infiltrated the jumpbridges all over EvE had been cleared. Ombey had arrived on time making a run down from F4R. I had been spending quite a few hours already in and around the Y-M system. CVA, Sylph had other dwellers had gotten used to me, though they every now and then had made vague attempts to engage me. An Ares had been most persistent but every time I was sure we would have a fight his wing man in a Rook came blasting in.

The people in the bar were of all kinds of associations, corps and alliances come together with the common goal of killing providence dwellers for their own reasons. The mainstay of the fleet was “The Gurlstas Associates” from “Genos Occidere” but also more obscure corps like “Nos Deficio” and even a pilot from “Caldari Provisions” were present.

“POD up” came the short order from Garmon as he and Nexus led the group out from the bar. The nervous Amarr residents had left it a long time ago and only a few government peace holders were off to a side minding their own business and tried to look very occupied by their table legs. You could see their eyes shine with rage as they noticed Ombey with his distinct Matari features but they wisely kept their temper in cage.

I had undocked and was already in Y-M by the time the rest of the gang was assembled. I had warped directly to the D61A gate and taken up position.

“Stabber Fleet Issue agessing on Kari gate” came to short communication burst.

I could already feel this would be a good day.

Garmons staccato voice rerupted “Get into F…ing gear. Get point on the Stabber and chase off the support.”

I turned my Taranis around and headed for the Kari gate. I landed some 30 km from the Stabber that initially had tried to get back to the gate when he had been swarmed by the Taranis gang.

“Hold fire, check scanner” Garmon called.

Drones were recalled, turrets held their lethal fire and Sabres got ready to bubble any rescue team who would be foolish enough to try and save the Stabber. After 3 minutes, an eternity in combat, scanner was reported clear. No friends comming to make a rescue attempt

“Finish him off” Garmon called and the Stabber erupted in a fireball by the combined firepower of 14 ships, I had already wapred off to scout the D61A system.

“We have two Harbingers, a Heretic, a caracal and a punisher on the Y-M gate in D61A” I informed the FC. “Harbingers are odly off the gate as if they have jumped in and not reapproached the gate or regrouped.”

It looked to me as if the group of 5 people were utterly clueless as to the incursion of hostile ships in Y-M or they played dumb in a system with no less than 2 jump bridges and a system we had no eyes in.

“Time to spring the trap” Nexus said over the intercom, echoing my own thoughts.

“Aye” Garmon confirmed. “Wot give me a 360 degree scan and Nexus get ready to make them agro”.

“Scan clear from gate but the 4 hostiles” I reported. “Get agro and rest of you scum prepare to jump in and bail him out.” Garmon called.

“Got agro, going into armor!” was the frantic message some 10 second later.

The gang jumped in and the fight was on. I called the Harbinger closest to Nexus primary and Garmon confirmed the primary 5 seconds later. The Harbinger exploded in a satisfying inferno as his ships system in error overloaded the lazer crystals and went critical. Next to bite the dust was a very cap stable heretic. Little good did his cap stable ships do him when he tried to run, a nice shield or armor buffer is the way forward. If you dont get out in 30 sec then your dead anyway no matter how much cap you got. The second harbinger went down like a sack of bricks. By that time the local comms channels indicated that the trap so finely laid was about to be sprung. Coordination is ever the problem and as the enemy ships warped in on us Nexus put up a bubble that would render the enemy unable to warp after us.

A thasher was the first to land in our bubble and got killed quikly.”Scanner !” Garmon called and Count MonteCarlo reported it clear. “Hold position and get ready to burn” Garmon told over the intercom.

“Get ready to burn” is the keyword to get ready to get out of dodge town and that enemy ships will land at any moment, drones are scooped, bubbles are cleared and people get ready to overheat the engines.

“Incoming” stated Count MonteCarlo’s low voice.

Full Size Screen Shot

“BURN !!!” Garmon called and we all overheated and cleared the field leaving the enemy stuck in the bubble.

Nexus was the firt to land on the H6 gate and engaged a third Harbinger. I wondered if these ships were on sale somewhere but reasoned that we, after all, was in Amarr Space. A new bubble was put up and the Harbinger went down as more hostile ships landed. Nexus got caught by a Lachesis and went down but not before his death was avenged. A punisher also took one in the face before we burned out. I don’t even recall shooting at him.

We scattered all over the system and tried to bait the main gang on the Y-M gate but they only moved closer to the gate when one of our ships showed the flag some 300 km from the gate.

“I…” There was a brief hesitation… “Well guys… I think we have a drake fighting some sansha in a belt…” a fleet member reported. Completely unaware that no less than 17 hostile ships where in the system this Drake pilot happily were collection bounties from Sansha ships.

A brief discussion led to the conclusion that the pilot was not in the main gang of enemies we had in the system and not in any of the corporations or alliances. He was simply clueless as to what was going on. Cluelessness gets you killed awfully fast in the world of EvE.

The main blob did not move from the Y-M gate so we opted to go for a small roam into Providence to see how the locals lived and how they would die when we visited pain upon their ships.

We took down some ships along the way and eventually ran into this Raven.

He was quickly gagged and bagged and once again we held of fire to see if anyone would come to his rescue. None came. It became embarrassing when the few drone that had survived the initial battles was actually chewing his shield up.

“Fini… Did the just eject ???” Garmons voice trailed off as the pod warped off. No one had though of bubbling it.

Discussion and laughs erupted. Should we take the Raven to combat as bait or just blow it up and get the insurance and move on…

“Resdayn eject, enter the raven and lets blow it up, its too cumbersome to have to fly around” Garmon made the decision.

In matter of seconds the former proud battleships exploded and debris flew to all sides.

The roam ended for me with a Diemost taking it in the teeth.

Ombey continued on and laid waste to several more CVA ships, including a Navy Omen and 2 Drakes.

I can’t wait for another tour into the lovely space of Providence where I hope more U’K will come along.

It happens every now and then that a corporation or even an alliance slows down.
After the victory in 49-U6U some thee weeks ago it has been extremely quiet in the catch region.
The main battleship fleet moved down south in Immensea to support an Atlas attack on the region but there was more dancing then action to be had for the UK fleet.

UK has seen some more action recently in the old area of operation of KW- and that pipe and in F4R area but nothing to write home about.

I had been hanging in the bar for an hour when my neocom buzzed. It was Ombey and for some strange reason he was very exited about an old caldari weapon system being modified.
I read with half an eye as I left the bar and slowly walked towards my sleeping quarter.
Ombey told of some new cpu reconfiguration that now allowed Stealth Bomber to use the Torpedos.

Torpedos ?
Slow hulking dumb weapons that have been obsolete in ships vs ship fighting for a long time unless for special situtaions where the target is of cosiderable size.
Why would I want torpedos on my Maticore?
That was when the jaw dropped to the floor. The very same sneaky little veasel of a scientist had managed to strap a Covert OPs cloaking device on a manticore and initial trials had proved that the new cpu allowed for the use of a Covert cloak.
A manticore warping cloaked with large damage potential to larger targets.
Not a bad combination at all actualy.

It took only a mili second to check that my torpedo skills were lacking in the extreme.
Mentally my training cource were altered and make the use of tech II torpedo launchers a top priority.

I changed direction from my quarter toward the clone vat.

For some reason the cloning operators always feel on top of things.
I asscribe that to the fact that they as mere mortals see us pod pilots at our weakest just when we wake up in a new clone covert in goo.
“Call up New Caldari and make them prepare my jump clone and make a jump clone ready here” I ordered the smiling man.
The calibration and connection always take a while and sometimes they have to make several attempts before the actual “jump” is completed.

An almost identical smiling man (Do they clone these critters ?) helps me out from the clone vat and hands me a towel.
“Join the Caldari Navy” is printed in the typical large letters all over the towel with the capital C logo beneath.
Like hell id join the Navy ! Id rather be dragged thorugh weeks usage of the same pod fluid… Ohh, I am already.

After a shower and making sure my insignias are correctly in place I briskly walk to the hangar and there she is.
My old forgotten Manticore. She is sitting next to a Cerberus, several Crows, a Sabre, a thorax (How did that end up here?) and Covert OPs ship.
Shame really that that cerb has been sitting here for so long.

After going over the ships I order the new cpu upgrades installed and monitor the progress of the workers.
I have some of the dark brown drink the minmatars call rum brought up. Clearly not the same label as the good one avaliable down south but an ok brand non the less.
After a few hours the upgrades are in place and the Manticore is ready for undocking with a covert OP cloak and torpedo launchers of the expensive tech I named version.
Well not that expensive as I have a nice collection of 24 pieces from when FM-C was based up north. I never could bring myself to sell them as the buy price on them was never high enough.

A quick change and back in the wet grave and is lowered into the manticore. A Sweet female voice briefs me on the new installments and their functions.
She even informs me that I have one more forgotten manticore in some obscure system further up north.
I make a mental note to pick that up in the comming days as I undock and set the destination for Catch.

The bar was heavy with smoke from white and brown sticks these Minmatar people seemed to enjoy along with larger quantities of Quafe, beer and spirits. The guys were celebrating but I felt biased about the outcome of our latest endavour.

Ushra’Khan had regrouped in FAT and 25S and moved in to support the efforts of AAA and BoB. Over 1000 ships moved into 49- and the games began. The game of dominance is as boring as it is long. POSs were erected and reinforced at an insane speed but the sheer number of pilots aligned with AAA and BoB brought about the end of the Goons ability to keep up the effort. At one point no less than 1700 ships were recorded in the same system. I have not seens such fleets in a long time. KIA were nowhere to be found but rumors had it that Geminate was under attack and yet another rumor claims that KIA now hold no less than 3 titans. I cannot stress what a relief it is to be with U’K and not have to worry about these beasts every battle. Anyway BoB is back in the seat and now has absolute control over the 49-U6U system and SirMolle reflected on this in a public speach.

I had not known if I were to applaud or shoot the bastard. Not much good it would do as he would be in a fresh clone shortly after but some satisfaction it might have yielded. I have grown up ever since I got my wings with the tantrum that the big evil empire of BoB wants to take over all space and no one will be able to fly free under any other banner but in Empire controlled space. The ties of friendship and companionship however has landed me, if not in their fold, then on the same side of the fence.

The smoke the sticks emit seems to linger i mid air creating a blue and white layer that encompasses the upper torso of the bar dwellers. From my seat I can see Sapphrine, Kerth and Karn stand together and talk in low voices. Something new is brewing and I sure will welcome any change at the moment. Fleet duties and the long hours of waiting has taken its toll. I long for fast paced combat where every single pilot makes a difference. Although the huge fleets are powerful the individual tend to stand in the background when around 1000 other pilots.

People had started leaving as it was time to do regular patrols and other duties. A slow and mixed evening I summed up and prepared to leave as well.

The slow pulsing red light lit up before the sound of the general alert hit in full force drowning out the tribal drums of the Matar. Everyone looked up and then ran for the nearest exit towards the different hangars.

“Battlestattions!” Forty Three yelled as he exited the bar first with the rest of the U’K crew close at his heels.

Sapphrine had left the bar early and undocked his Raven and was now under heavy attack right out side the very station. I could feel the explosions rumble as two Ravens exchanged blows a mere kilometer away.

Faster, faster, faster, get in pod undock and kill the offender.

I entered the pod and got washed over as fluid poured in and covered my body. No sooner was my pod lifted from the floor before we started hooking up the fleet cohesion intercoms.

The pod got lowered into the ship, but ever so slowly. I was agitated which is not the best state of mind to enter combat.

“Trying to break off engagement” I heard Sapphrine say as my Vagabond was being aligned for undocking.

The voice of the hangar manager came in clearly. “Sir you…”

I mentally hit the throttle, full speed ahead. The explosion came as a complete surprise. The ship jerked to the right and came to an abrupt hold. Sapphrines Raven had exploded so close to the undock point that my vagabond had been thrown off course and now lay facing in the wrong direction.

“SABRE!!!” I yelled at the hangar crew as my pod was lifted from the Vagabond. It took no more then 30 seconds before I was placed in the new ship and running undocking procedures again.

I ejected cleanly from the station and speed past some of our battleships.

Ahh yes, the view of a small battle field. I noted the wreck of Sapphrines battleship as more hostiles landed on the station and the fight was on. It was clear they had not expected such a fast reaction and not so many capable ships undocking. None the less the enemy charged.

I jerked the Sabre to the right and pointed the nearby Raven that had attacked Sapphrine. The small 200mm autocannons stared spewing their lethal loads at the ship. The Raven gave a satisfying bloom of light as it exploded. I released a bubble to capture the enemy fleet and that sure got the attention.

In the blink of an eye my shield was down to half and I hit the micro warpdrive as I tried to clear out. I did not accelrate however as my ship got immobilized by a double webbing from a nearby rapier and a nasty little crusader charged in on me.

Again the payload of a drake hit me full force and my shield was now non existing.

“Give me 120% on the micro warpdrive” I ordered the crew. The speed picked up and all of a sudden I rocketed forward as I got out of range of the Rapier. I’m gonna make it I thought to myself.

An extremely unsatisfying sound told me the wardrive had deactivated. I was about to scram at the crew when my sensors registered the micro warpdrive crippling point of the crusader.

No, no, no,…, Fack it ! I turned the Sabre around and engaged the crusader, web and disruptor. His shield went down ever so slowly… Had the crew loaded barrage ammo into the cannons ?

To late to change ammunition, we will just have to see how this plays out. Hull breach my overview told me as yet one more load of assault missiles hit my poor ship.

One more volley and I would be done for.

Crusader was down to 10 % shield, if he kept it cool I would die, if not I would warp out. I argued my chances and told the crew to eject as I made a final approach that I hoped would finish him off.

The assault missiles hit me in full force and the badly battered Sabre disintegrated in a firestorm, unstable warpdisruptor probes blew up and ammunition ignited.

My very first loss in my time in Ushra’Khan. 4 months of 100 % efficiency ruined in the blink of an eye. Not for lack of combat or willingness to fight but for some reason the luck had run out. The very same Sabre that a number of times had warped out trailing flames with almost no hull intact of several battles.

Vision returned as my pod adjusted and I aimed for the station.

Fight was still on and I was eager to join the fight again. I saw the same sneaky devil of a Drake go down in flames as I docked. SERVES YOU RIGHT YOU BASTARD !!! Konson and I have a score to settle when I meet him again !!! Cursed be his Caldari Navy Hellfire Assault Missiles !!!

My bubble went down with my ship and the enemies were free to run. The only solution I figured was a Rapier to stop them.

I undocked once more and saw a Curse trailing fire but before I had him locked he blew up.

ahh there the Crusa… ohh he warped out… fack ! But ScoRpS sat there in his crow still feeling cooky or had someone put a point on him ? In any event when my double webs hit him he came to a satisfying speed level and my warrior drones let loose their small guns on him. Explosive ammunition just does not have a good effect on shields so the death struggle dragged out until Markus Belfost decided that a Cataclysm Cruise Missile was fitting to ram into the nimble little ship.

We picked up what could be salvaged from the wrecks and returned to the station.

The general mood about the engagement was good as we headed back to the bar we had just left.
For some reason after a tense combat situation people flock together and talk. New white and brown sticks were lit and the tribal drum music started pouring out the loudspeakers again. I guess a single Sabre loss aint that bad after 4 months and several billions of destroyed enemy ships.
The question was brought up if the alliance as a whole should compensate for the interdictor loss as they are vulnerable ships and valuable ships and people should not fear to fly them into combat. I declined any talk of such nonsense. Not out of modesty but Ive always payed for the ships I fly into combat and it would mock the other people who lost ships.
If it was a large alliance engagement and I was told to do 0% chance runs at the enemy fleet id maybe had taken the offer.

After a quick drink of something brown called Rum I took of to Agil to get a new Sabre and noted there is a new outpost in EvE. HED- now features a full station making it so much easier to store combat ships and fight both CVA and Paxton for the route into Catch. 10 jumps and 50 million ISK later I was back in F4R in my new ship.

These are interesting times and I look forward to the comming weeks…

Morale is at an all time high !

For two weeks the warriors of Ushra’Khan have successfully defended the tower we originally took from SSI. Many enemies have died within the reach of its turrets. In some wierd twist of events SSI have become their own undoing.

To begin with they were savagely assaulted due to their affiliation with the slavers of CVA and Sylph. Over time their arrogance turned the operation of disrupting their supplylines into a bitter struggle of wills where U’K warriors would simply move in and live in their home system of KW-. I know, as I have spend no less than 3 weeks no further than 2 jumps from KW-.

SSI have had increasingly problems fueling their SOV holding towers in their constellation as U’K stealth bombers have been deployed at each tower as well as multiple small gangs roaming their space. That has caused some of their towers to go offline and it seem the result is that they have started taking them down.

When you unanchor a tower it takes a certain time for it to complete the operation where it is extremely vulnurable as all defences are turned off and only a fleet can protect the industrial assigned with scooping the tower.

The result has been that a number of towers has been ninja hijacked by U’K gangs. Always having a cloaked hauler at the ready running ammo and picking up loot, the opportunity has offered itself for U’K to steal no less than two large Amarr towers and a number of smaller ones.

SSI as a consequence has retreated to their outpost and refuse to commit to battle of any scale and only come out to fuel whatever towers they have left. In order to draw them out we would have to be bold and expose our fleet to the large fleets of CVA and Sylph. The solution was to put up one of the stolen large towers of SSI and challenge their SOV.

In short order U’K erected a deathstar under the fire of CVA and Sylph fleets. For some reason SSI did not contribute to these fleets that set out to help them defend their space.

The onslaught has been great and today we were informed we would face another of same proportions.

The roaring engines of the Megathron came to life as the fleet set out from the system of Utopia and this is where one of the most exciting weeks for me in a long time started.

We all arrived well at the large tower and set up perimeter and got our warp in and warp out spots set up.

Anticipation was high as we expected to be heavily outnumbered but would be fighting with POS gunners on our side near the large tower. Thus the odds might even be slightly in our favor if we performed well and on spot.

The minutes dragged into hours as we came to realise that the fleet reported by our intel was not going to materialize near our small part of space.

A quick survey of opinions resulted in the general attitude that if they would not come to us, we would have to come to them. However our fleet were in no position to fight a much larger fleet in their own backyard and on their terms. So we would have to settle for some general harassment of the station services in KW-

we set out and arrived at the almost too common sight of the KW- station with a drag bubble that would catch traffic to and from both gates and the station. I am at a loss as to the placement of that outpost once again.

We quickly set to work and took down the repair-service like we have done so many times before. It has become second nature that if you are in the KW- system for whatever reason you set your drones on the station services. Its ot like SSI will come out and attack you anyway. They have become quite paranoid in regards to traps.

After the repair-service came the cloning service and while we were at it we might as well take one more service.

Tedious work and it did not draw the response we hoped for. SSI stay docked while their space was violated and their station molested.

After almost two hours of hammering on the station services it looked like nothing more then a heap of metal, not fit for habitation. Of course the inner structures were intact and protected by the station shields but the damages to the services showed everywhere. Flames and gasses vented into the cold space.

I powered down the ship in the next door system of W9- and drifted off while the crew went about their duties of maintaining the huge 425mm Railguns mounted on the sides of the Megathron.

I slowly came to the next day as a signal was coming through. A lone hunter was chasing a sole Megathron through some systems. Apparently it was stabbed with warp core stabilizers and giving the chaser a hard time. He called for damage dealers as more joined the hunt and it became apparent that it was not just a mere Megathron. It was the Navy version. What in EvE was it doing so far from regulated empire space ?

Never mind that, I told myself and informed the crew we would need the 425′s loaded with close-range antimatter slugs and the Ogre II drones ready to deploy for maximum damage.

The hunt was on !

[OOC]This started an over 8 hours long combat cycle so forgive me if I have missed anything or even mix up some events, to the best of my knowledge this is what took place[OOC]

The little bastard was bold enough to come blasting through right under my very nose as he escaped another risky jump with a point being called but for some reason webs had been deployed on him as well so he aligned quickly and warped out.

Two jumps later we corrected that mistake and he got no less than 4 points called on him before the webs ht him with full force. He called out in the local system channel for mercy. “No quarter is asked and none given, sorry” was the harsh reply he got from the pilot simply named as Forty Three.

In short order his magnificent ship was redued to a smoldering wreck.

We devided the loot and I was not really interested in the stuff but for some time I will use the more expensive Federation Navy Antimatter :) .

I also got an escort back to the F4R station that fall under the domain of Against All Authorities (AAA or -A-).

Overseeing the docking procedures I got to the conclusion that more interdictors were needed. All to often prey got away due to having a huge number of warp core stabilizers. I talked to the rest of the warriors and there was general agreement that we could use a Sabre. The Sabre I once was very familiar with and flew it often into combat alongside the fleet of KIA. Interdictors have one of the highest death rates as their armor and shield are frail and they have the most dangerous job of all. To rush over the entire length of a battlefield dodging the space filled with ammunition being shot at insane speeds from both sides of the engagement and then put up a bubble on the hostile fleet, getting out of said bubble and align back. Rinse and repeat as necessary. A dangerous job to be sure, but one I feel the KHAI is suited for.

It took me almost and hour to get the Sabre from empire and back to utopia.

Landing in Sendaya, a scout reports a Sylph tower is being unanchored in the system of A-VILQ with 14 minutes to go.

A quick check on the navigation told me 15+ jumps. I was going to be late almost for sure even if the road was clear all the way. A fleet invitation went out over the alliance coms asking to sync the ships up. I reported in and was scouted into Doril where I set off in a frantic chase towards the A-VILQ system.

Click here for large size map.

In order to understand the following movements I advise to keep the map open and refer to it.

The star charts bloomed and showed the number of active pilots, but were inaccurate as they keep records for 30 minutes. That results in that the number of ships in each system is way too high but it still makes for an amazing sight when a dispersed fleet in on the move to a location.

Over the alliance coms I could hear battle starting when I was still 10 jumps out and the FC called for an interdictor. I reported that I was still 9 jumps out but en route. In GE- system I was greeted by the chippering of ny navigational warning signal as multiple reds were jumping in, but they were not organised yet and I slipped through together with a covert hauler.

We made it as far as the CB4- gate in EX- where we had to pause as a hostile taranis and 2 other ships held the gate and more reported on the other side.

We waited for 3 maybe 4 minutes but it seemed an eternity. Especially with the war sounds booming over the NeoCom. Its a heightened state of mind where the heart races and all you think about is to enter the struggle next to your comrades in arms, but the smallest remains of logic tells you to hold back so you can join the fight and do some good instead of dying 2 jumps from the actual battle.

The Taranis and his mates left into CB4- and only 15 seconds later the gate was called clear and I warped in. Fighting and skirmishes had broken out in multiple systems now.

Sylph is jumping in reinforcement by their jumpbridge system and U’K pilots drip in one at a time to enter the fray.

19:50 sees the first blood drawn in struggle that will end many hours later.
Sylph looses the following ships in A-VILQ to a 12 man gang that snatch the unanchored tower
Dominix, Battleship
Prorator, Transport
Myrmidon, Battlecruiser
Megathron, Battleship
Falcon, Recon ship

At the same time as the last hostile dies I jump in to system and take up position on the N-8BZ6 gate in A-VILQ with 4 other ships. Managing to keep Sylph locked out Meera has for unknown reasons jumped into X3FQ-W where I am unsure if there also is a jumpbridge of Sylphs. None the less she reports a Rorqual on scan and drop a probe.

I headed for the gate of X3FQ-W and is shortly joined by the rest as we scoop the tower.

30 seconds later Meeras frantic voice sounds over the FleetCom. “Point, point, I got him, his drones will tear me apart, jump and warp to me now.” We all jumped and initiate warp. My ship being one of the faster ones to align come out of warp and landed me a mere 3 km of the huge industrial ship.

Quickly I launched a warp disrupting probe that shuts down the warp cores of the large ship and render it motionless. For some odd reason this huge bulk of metal is in a PLEX, a deadspace where Sanshas pirates are happily attacking away on it and don’t mind that we also start to pick on their prey.

While we signed the death sentence of the beast a KIA gang were reported around Utopia/F4R as well as a Paxton Federation gang that had landed in GE-94X. The Rorqual resulted in a 2 billion isk epic firework !

As we wrapped up the dead Rorqual and moved out we decided to split our relative small gang. Some wanted to cause more mayhem and others to head for the bars of F4R.

We decided to call in reinforcements to break the GE-94X camp that now consist of Sylph ships and some auxiliary troops. We bait them with U’K ships while AAA jump them from the other side of the gate.

A U’K HAC had to bite the dust but the result is a win with 10 kills, as the much heavier fleet supported by frigates take one in the teeth.

While this takes place our small contingent of ships move further into Sylph space while there is general joking of where we shall deploy the tower we just stole.

Getting closer to Sylph main systems we encounter a Megathron that is bubbled and promptly killed. This sparks a 5 hour roam into Sylph territory where we almost unencountered pick of the ratters and prey on their weaker pilots.

After the initial 2 hours they do however get the idea and start putting up some sort of organized opposition.

We set up camp in the BR- system on the IS- gate and deploy bubbles between the gates and the station. Like spiders we wait and strike without mercy at the Sylph ships.

A Raven is reported in IS- and I go through and bubble him but he has smartbombs that destroy my probe and he then warps off unharmed to my annoyance. I was so sure I had him.

We go back and sit on the IS- gate. This Raven is bound to comeback and show his arrogance and next time we will not be some forgiving and I will not deploy the probe so close to him. He is going to go down.

After 10minutes a Drake is reported tackled in IS- and we race there once more. The poor sod thought it safe to hunt pirates in the asteroid belts with a 12 man gang next door and a red in local.

We soon taught him the error of his way as he meekly called for help over the local channels. We were gone as fast as we had killed the poor soul.

Back in BR- I took time to take in the view of this very pretty system. The sky has such a great color composition and I wondered to myself when it was the last time I had beheld the beauty of the universe. I knew the answer was right before I joined U’K and was underway of leaving Ore Mongers.

I wonder if anyone else but me stop every once in a while and just sit and take it all in ?

I toyed with my camera drones to make time go and got some great shots of our small camp at the gate.

Reports tickled in that our tower in GMLH-K was under attack from something as odd as a frigate gang.

We smiled as the first losses of their fleet tickled in and it was not long before the enemy gave up their half hearted attempt to attack the deathstar.

We got a few more kills as the night drew on and a new day dawned but Sylph had had enough.

Something had to be done to these defiant freedom fighters and a fleet was being assembled in ERVK-P.

We were 20 U’K pilots in BR- with 12-14 active pilots at any given time. The Sylph fleet was composed of roughly 10 battleships 20 assorted BC to cruiser sized ships with heavy interdictor support. They also had some 20 pilots in BR- and 25 more in IS-. We cant only assume that most of them were docked and inactive.

The odds did not look good. But U’K is known for fighting against the odds and 2:1 is considered ok odds. But we needed a plan.

We would not jump into the camp they had set up in ERVK-P on the BR- gate, and after a while Sylph seemed to realise that as well. They, being the numerical superior, would have to come to us. Clearly a proposition that frustrated them to no end.

We came up with a 3 bubble solution that would cover their gates as well as their jumpbridges and I was put roughly 200 km above the station in order to warp in on anyone landing in any of the 3 bubbles.

Together with the interceptors I was also one of the few not able to cloak up.

We did not have to wait long before the local system number swelled and I could feel that this did indeed look like bleak odds.

I open up my directional scanner and saw nothing. I periodically scanned every 10-20 sec and all of a sudden it exploded in a festivity of ships.

“Incoming, Incoming” I called.

"Get ready, draw them out, keep your transversal up and don’t get killed" the FC called.

They landed in the top right bubble and I activated my microwarpdrive homing in like a missile on their position.

Alarms started chirping as I was lit up by multiple hostiles but they did not open fire and focused on the Vagabonds instead and I launched my bubble on top of half their fleet which caused them some panic as no one likes to find themselves in a bubble. Coming out clean I turned around and got back on top of the station. A lone Crow had seen me and headed in my direction. The gang disengaged and pulled back, getting ready for a second onslaught.

We had killed a Hugging and a Rupture at the expense of a Taranis. So far so good.

We had also managed to get their fleet spread out over the entire space but so was our own forces.

We went in for a second round, screaming defiance over the FleetComs and engaging the enemy fleet.

"NEUT" was all Xennith could yell before the Vagabond exploded, everything from there on went horribly wrong.

My bubble deployed but our forces was chased off and the bubble hung there in space to no use at all. We took losses of two more Vagabonds and I called that we were not focused and should retreat.

FC agreed and called the rest off. I barely made it out as I was down low and running with two ceptors in hot pursuit. They had me locked at were spewing slugs at me but I was free to warp out.

Lord Makk in his Cerberus was down to 30% hull and we decided enough was enough and limped off.

I was still high from the fighting when I powered down the ship in BR- at a safe location some 20 minutes later when my electronics no longer emitted combat signals.

All in all this concluded one of the most exiting roams ever. These small organized gangs are not afraid to take on fleets 3 times their size and dont shrink in the face of danger. Not even in KIA, in large fleet battles has I felt anything so intense. Ive only dipped my toes and cant wait to have more of it.

The vagabond slid slowly through the emptyness of space as the nearby gas giant reflected its ray of light of the armor plates.

I was begining to feel comfortable spending longer periods of time in space without returning to a Station. When we deploy for deepspace operations it comes with a full detatchment of dedicated logistic people. That means that ammo is always avaliable and if you have loot from enemies you jetison it in canisters and it gets picked up and contracted back to you in our home base. Ships fly or jump up with their drone hangars full and leave the control so that the nimble Heavy Assault Ships can take control of them and go about their brutal work.

One can almost smell the fatigue of the enemy. They are tired. Tired of being on guard, tired of being hunted and tired of loosing ships.

Another patrol of the KW- system was comming to an end when a call wnet out that a small camp had been set up 2 jumps away. Our FC send 2 falcons, and interdictor and 2 other ships to the same gate but i the system before. The idea was an atempt to lure them in. The rest of the fleet held back in KW- now only a single jump from the camp if they jumped through.

However they remained calm and waited for what they must have believed was a small gang to jump through.

After a while and much debate if we were being set up for a trap we desided to engange the camp. The plan was to jump in what ships we had and let them hold cloack while the mainstay jumped-warped and jumped.

It was briliantly executed. While the small enemy camping fleet was eagerly awaiting for their prey to decloack in CB4-Q2, we jumped into EX- and aligned for the CB4-Q2 gate. When we arrived on the gate our small party of brave pilots broke the cloack and was engaged by the enemy. Our main fleet of 15 ships jumped in to find the enemy buzy trying to disengage at the sight of the local system ship survey jump with nothing but hostile ships.

One or two got away but most had to bite the dust with no losses on our part.

Upon returning to KW- we were met with insults as to why we was running away. We had to correct them and inform that one of their allies had just taken one in the stomac.

The rest of the evening was quite uneventfull but I had to shut off the local com channel as their taunting became unbearable as all they did was to sit so close to the station that, I can only asume, their mechanics must have screamed from within the station due to the paint job they would have to do overnight.

I powered down the ship for the night.

RISE AND SHINE ! My most enthusiastic captain called over the intercom. My first impulse was to release the drones and fire up the auto-cannons. I could feel the crews puzzlement…

“Just checking systems” I announced over the intercom.

People settled down and went about their routines as the vagabond came to life. Ready for this days trials.

The first thing I noted was the usual suspects in local and ever clinging to the station as usual.

As what resembled a small gang was put together by us we warped in and out and took turns at the enemy that heavily outnumbered us at that point.

They never moved from the undock point of that station and docked up as soon as their shield was gone.

They were getting desperate and tired again and the tension could be felt. Desperate or tired men make mistakes. Not even pod pilots avoid that fact. One let the tiredness slip in the local coms.

(right-click and show picture for full size so local can be read)

As the hour progressed our small gang of 4 ships turned into almost a full fleet of 15 ships with only 17 enemies in local.

It was clear that they did not fancy a fight with 4 of us vs almost 20 of them earlier and now they were even more reluctant to do anything.

A trap had to be made and I called for bubbles. Noone had brought any so I got hold of “Bob”, an underling of Ombey of sorts. Ive never fully understood their relationship but for some reason Bob could always get a hold of Ombey. Complicated but not after long Ombeys pod transponder showed up in the corporate channels.

“Need a mobile small warp bubble up here and we are having fun at the KW- station” I told him.

Ombey was up for fun and headed up towards KW- at once. Well arrived he set up the bubble so that ships comming from the gates toward the station would be dragged into the bubble instead of landing on the station in safe docking range.

Soon after my crew demanded a stand down as I had kept them running for way too many hours and the Gallentean girl kept buzzing my neo coms with calls from Jita. So I safed up and powered down the ship.

Little did I know that I was about to miss out on all the action.

First to be hit was Kelban.

I have mentioned him before with his strange and expensive fittings. This was nothing short of amazing. His abaddon was loaded as it went into a silent implosion.

That day turned out to be a very bad day for SSI, not counting the losses they had just before midnight where the Abaddon was among them. Kelban had to take another loss as he slowboated his Dread out to the traped Thanatos

Now all had been well and good if not for the fact that they did not post the losses on the public concord billboards so we had to do that for them.

I talked it over with the crew the next morning. It now shows that U’K has an efficiency of over 80 %.

80 % efficiency is good I heard them say but we work way too hard to only get 80% efficiency.

Struck by this truth I was at first puzzled.

I looked up their amount of damage done to U’K as an alliance which is calculated in ISK and a higly inaccurate number but non the less an indicator. A claim of almost 57 billion isk in damage done !

I checked our own record at once and found that SSI had been responsible for losses amounting to 2,4 billion.

A mystery…

Could they be so desperate that they post kills not belonging to them ? Is their morale that low and questionable?

I quickly started search for all these kills they supposedly should have on U’K and it did not take long to find the truth. No SSI on the kill but still they claim it as their own. Lots and lots and lots of these litter their records. I brought this news to my crew at once and they settled down a bit, now hungry for revenge against what they feel is a wrong doing in regards to their pride as warriors.

Is the SSI fighting morale that low and reaching breaking point ?

We must double our efforts and push the advance.
