EvE – Wotlankor

Welcome to the fifth installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by CrazyKinux. This month’s topic comes to us from Mynxee of Life in Low Sec. She asks “Alts and Metagaming: Is playing two accounts who are logged in at the same time and work together (hauler/miner, explorer/combat associate, trade alts in trade hubs) a form of metagaming that is “ruining the game”?“

Damn, I have deleted two posts by now cause I keep reformulating the initial question. For some reason metagaming is a bad word in my ears and I keep comming back to the question of spies and such wich is not the question.

The straight answer is that I dont find the use of alts for any of the above mentionen activities to be a disruption to the game. I do however see some of the activities that spies perform to be disruptive and here I go again getting dragged of subject…

Time is of the essense.

When I log on to play a game I enjoy I dont want to use excessive time builing a small fortune or moving around. To me EvE is a PvP game and I spend all my isk on combatships that goes puff in firey clouds.

The ability to use a cyno alt is a freedom that I cannot imagine to live without. To waste an evening cause noone wants to risk their last cyno kestrel, is not avaliable, has run out of fuel and what not is a waste of my spare time.

However watching a drag bubble all night is a perfectly good way to waste time for some odd reason because I feel I am playing. Moving around is just pure obstructiuon.

Also my different characters give me the oppertunity to “taste” more of EvE due to the speciallized nature of the skill system.

While Wotlankor is a pure combat pilot, krede besides being my main battleship and carrier pilot also can mine perfectly in a hulk. Lastly I have the Gallentean Girl that can trade, invent, mine and haul.

From time to time they all come together and present a money maker unit. It is of late though very seldom.

Wotlankor in a Raven supported by krede in a domi and a salvager alt makes for a great team or when I was in gemminate I would have krede and the Gallentean Girl in hulks and Wotlankor hauling or tanking the belt.

I see no problem maintaining a multitude of alts for different purposes. I want to try everything in EvE and alt are the only way to go about it in a timely fashion.
