A new day in a new life has begun.

A life not much different but then again aspects of this new life is are indeed very new. I have left behind the epic fleet battles and will sourly miss the special feeling, that is when a fleet undocks and prepares for fight.

The special feeling when you fly next to a titan and prepare to jump into an often hostile location. All senses are fully alert and it almost a narcotic flowing though your veins when the Fleetcommander tells you to jump.

Juturna traveled though the outlaw sectors of skirts of Empire controlled space and I was by far not comfortable with this unregulated space. Some of the more spetacular arrivals using the jumpdrive brought picctures to the mind of the Nyx crashing into the Caldari station spakring the begining of the war in empire.

I have arrived in what we claim as our home. The system of Y-4CFK is controlled by the Guristas and they grant docking rights to anyone who will let a few isk slip in their direction.

My new home has already delivered what was promised. Fast paced combat in small agile fleets. In my first two days I hhave lost a ship and downed three.

Also very noticable is the development in the corp and the alliance as a whole. There is a huge influx of people and everyone is very optimistic. Learning and teaching goes hand in hand and even very new pilots can join up as long as they have the right attitude.

For the moment I am looking at the horizon and it seems bright.

The cry of outrage I believe could be heard throughout the station.

The amount of stupidity in this cursed galaxy will never end. Having formally left KIA, I had a few Large Secure Containers in the corp hangar in the carrier and when the idiotic crew managing the hangar saw the containers there they had automatically assumed that KIA must have wanted them back and simply emptied the Corp Hangar out into my main hangar so I could deal with the hand over my self.

Not for one second did they look at the markings that clearly stated Wotlankor property.

To make matters worse the doors and bay to the corp hangar has jammed and was now stuck giving me a simple access denied everytime I tried to access the different compartment.

“I NEED THAT CARGO SPACE !” I yelled at the wierd looking little hangar manager. His name tag proudly displayed Clue Cles Pashole. I was thinking about making him eat it…

“Im sorry.” He meekly replied.

“How am I to jump to my new location when all my stuff is littered around the hangar ??” I was close to a rage with frustration.

“Im sorry, but we are working on it” He replied. He did not look sorry at all.

How am I to deal with standard replys ? I could have choked the little weasel in front of me but I realised that in this kind of station outside CONCORD authority there were nothing to be done. Most likely my ships would end up is a worse shape if I made a fuss about it.

I headed straight for the bar, but this time there were no company to be had. First thing tomorrow morning Im signing up with my new corporation and see if they can pull some strings and make the reopening of my hangars go quicker. Afterall they are pirates and in outlaw space that counts for something when things needs to go smoother.

I watch as InSession, in his pod, is lowered into his Curse, a dreaded Amarr invention that can tap the capacitor of any ship in no time, leaving it defenceless. Spaz has already taken off in a Rapier similar to my own.

Piracy, now there is a brave new world to beexplored. Still a bit drunk I start asking around the station and probing for information about different outfits. I call in some favors and hail a few friends to survey the more shadowy corporations.
As I communicate and gather Intel via the neocomm a ship glides by the panorama window. Its huge. It is dark brown with rust but still radiate lethality. Its overly large extended armor plates show scares of battle but some places the metal shines not from impacts of combat but as if from cleaning… cleaning… On a minmatar carrier ? HA ! At best they have some Fedos shuffling around to clean it.

It takes a little to realise that I am observing Varuna with the KIA markings clearly scraped off, much like the process my ships are undergoing at the moment.
Another minute pass by before I realise what that means.

Ombey has left his CEO position of DAC and his leadership position in KIA. I’ll be damned. It must have happened a few days prior to my own decision. I had noted that he had been a bit quiet but took it for a short leave of absence.

I at once hook up with his internal communication and hail him. What follows is surely an act of Divine intervention if one believe in such things.

Ombey is on his way north to join Ore Mongers and become a part of Black Hand.

Could fate be playing its dirty trick and be guiding me ?

Bright light pierce the windows as I wake up in the station located in unregulated space. At first I am confused but then reality hits me that my resignation is being processed at this very moment and in 12 hours I will lose my affiliation with the KIA alliance. My home through almost a year.

How to cope, how to cope ?

I head for the bar, if a bar in a low life scum station such as this cannot be entertaining then at least I can get drunk. Heading down there in my own thoughts I stumble into a hooded person. A person of the Amarr bloodline obviously. I excuse myself and try to walk past him.

“Fucking cunt” I hear him say, my eyes flash with anger, but there is a tone to the voice that does not correspond to the insult.

The face of a full blood Amarr greets me with a broad smile. Amarr as a race should not smile. It simply looks wrong… unnatural. However this face is almost split in half as I recognize the outcast.

InSession, a top of the class pilot and a fist class asshole. No wonder he could not stay in Amarr space. Thinking about it I’m sure the Amarr Empire has a price on his head.

What is more important he is also a friend and a friend in EvE has to be appreciated.

Back when I joined WARN he was part of the leadership structure but left KIA Alliance after Period Basis was secured and I slipped over to KIA Corporation.

Exchanging unpleasantries we walk together to the bar where he incidentally also was heading (like hell he was). At the bar I am introduced to Spaz, a CEO for the infamous Minmatar Mafia. A pirate outfit that has so many lives on their consciousness that I don’t even know where to start.

They are moving north into Venal region they tell as we consume a few Quafe Ultra. They have recently joined the Black Hand and are shifting north to hook up with Ore Mongers. Yet another notorious pirate outfit. I start to shift in my seat very uneasy about all this talk of attacking innocent passersby.

Proper drunk we each go our separate way hours later.

I am drunk but intrigued with the idea of pirating and pillaging. It fits so well with my desires for combat as well as my limited time in space. I could be in combat from when I undock till I dock. A dangerous and hazardous life for sure but also filled with adventure. Didn’t the Gallente have some pirate star featuring in a movie where he saved some girl in distress?

8 more hours and I am no longer in KIA and I can see the hangar crew already removing my affiliation markings on Juturna.

I must investigate this pirating phenomenon closer.

Returning from the frontline I looked at the wreck that was once a magnificent Megathron battleship.

Reduced to scraps in the blink of an eye. So it goes for both enemy and friends. We accept this fate as we undock. However I have increasingly found myself in a situation where I could not live up to the standards of KIA. KIA pilots are deployed for extended periods to frontlines with no way of returning but the use of JumpClones. Due to the technology involved it prohibits the person to jump back for 24 hours.

More often than not I find that the time when the fleet sets out and when I am available for combat duty is conflicting. So I sit at the frontline station or POS for 30 minutes before I power my ship down seeing the last ships leave for an OP that will last for a few hours.

I have to face that the days of hours in continuous space combat is coming to a half. No longer will my Megathron be the vigilant guardian for 5 hours straight of a remote POS or station. No longer can I uphold 9 hours of pondering the enemy.

I twist and turn in my camber thinking in alternatives. IPOS, the industrial backbone of KIA is always left behind to uphold a minimum of presence in our home space whenever the fleet sets out. I am not an industrial person though and I would find it hard to be left behind. A situation not much different from today. What I need is fast action in the timeframe I have available.

I get out of the bed and go to the window facing the star of the TDE system. In the distance can be seen the flashes of the activation of jump portals and cyno generators.

A particular large flash erupts as a carrier sized vessel jumps out, drawing a line of white and blue across the dark sea of stars. I am filled with an inner peace as I come to the conclusion that I too must draw a line in the sky. I am leaving my home of KIA.

8 hours later, fresh awake, I am in the hangar looking at Juturna. She is very lonely as most capital ships are at the frontline fighting and making “hotdrops” on unsuspecting fleets. The hangar crew is ordered to fill her up with my personal belongings and quickly gets the job done while I supervise the small robots they operate mill about like ants.

1 hour later all my ships are loaded and ready for takeoff and a goodbye is broadcasted over the internal boards. Response is tickling in that it is not a “goodbye” but a “see you later”.

I hope I will fly with KIA once again because they are the best of friends and pilots out there, but in my heart I know an époque for me is at an end.

I call in a favor and a cyno is lit in a non disclosed low security system. Juturna draws a white and blue line as I leave TDE behind.

I was sitting in the MGAM station just minding my own business as the holoreel announced a speech from the new empress of Amarr. I have heard Ombey talk about the war going on in empire.

Super weapons from the terran age, an empress who should have died in succesion combat, a simple caldari worker taking control of my former home world as easy as blowing out a shuttle, as if some unseen hand had moved everyone in his desired direction. The gallente attrocities of steering a Nyx mothership into a caldari station that according to rumor contained an antidote to the drugs used to inslave the Minmatars in Amarr. Finally but not the least the return of the Elders, some mythic creatures that Ombey for some reason holds in high regard, who launched a full blown attack on Amarr.

And there on my screen the new empress turned up. One must say she makes quite an impression but what I noted were the forces assembled to salut her. The feed must have been tampered with cause no entity control that many Titans.

I counted 20 !

You can view the entire show here but be adviced it is quite a heavy file to load.

Where is the universe going when any sole entity can hold 20  Titans.

We on our part are strugling with no less than 15 combat active and known Titans owned by BoB.

The ammount of Titans soon avaliable to even medium alliances will soon reach a point where the only propper ship to bring to the frontline is a dreadnought. Gone will be the era of the scared battleships and in will come a time when you either hit the siege mode and risk all or loose before the first shot is fired.

I my self has seen this comming for some time and have started a new project that will see me in the battleship of tomorrow, the dreadnought and the only viable supportships, the heavy interdictor and the carrier. However to replace these will be a loss I cannot hope to cope with more than a few times. Only the largest of the largest alliances will be able to field pure cap fleets bought with alliance money.

Should the time come when the field is dominated by Titans and super capital ships I shall withdraw from active service, hook up with the gallentean girl and find a nice quiet planet far from empire and far from politics and conflicts.

Welcome to my first attempt to report other news from EvE than my own little pond.

Yesturday I participated in my very first Live Dev Blog.

You join a live blog simply by joining the channel “live dev blog”, activate your EvE-Voice and you are good to go.

Live Dev Blog are often about changes that will affect all EvE dwellers and take root in the forum discussions. They are then presented in an interview form to the public.

Upon entering I was greeted by a wall of spam in the channel and I almost left, thinking that I could do without a channel full of immature comments, but I thought better of it and waited for the admins to clear it. That they did by simply muting everyone. There have been concerns about using the live blog on such important an issue as it will change the combat as we know it works

GM Nova was the channel admin and introduced the live dev blog by using the MOTD:

Welcome to the Live Dev Blog channel.
Now at 20.00 we will host a Live Dev Blog on Speed Balancing.

CCP Mindstar will be joined by Herr Doctor CCP Fendahl and Archbishop Desmond CCP Nozh to discuss current state of affairs and various solutions in design. As usual we have a discussion thread on the forums where you can ask questions and make suggestions to the developers.

Mindstar outlined the status of the speed changes and hopefully the Multiplicity server would be up during the run of next week. The aim is to test the speed changes and then if all progress as it should to implemment the changes on the forthcomming expansion.

The first subject after an introductory round was the Interceptor VS Cruisers problem, as due to slot configuration and ships stats some cruisers are able to outperfom the specialized interceptorclass maiking them a less viable option. Also in same category we have the problem with nanoships being able to outrun drones and missiles.

In the upcomming expansion or patch an interceptor will no longer be able to outrun for eksample a pack of warrior IIs. The aim being that the interceptor and especially the crow is a usable ship while not being untouchable.

Another unintended game mechanism is the situation where a nano ship jumps through a stargate and land in a camp. Here the mass and inertia of the ship, while fitted with a micro warpdrive, often allows the ship to  escape back through the gate no matter how many webbers you have on it. A fix for this is being tested currently on the test servers but there were no details as to how they would axactly go about it.

All weaponssytsem will have their numbers checked and especially the missile system comes under a very close review. Actualy there is currently in development a whole new combat system for missiles.

Also drones will see their fair share of love, most notably the medium drones that are too effective according to the developers.

Last thing I heard before I has to turn my attention to other RL events was that there also was a new formula for tracking, sig radius in respect to microwarpdrives and afterburners. The developers claim that the alterations will in fact see the rise of a new area where PvP ships will use both an Afterburner as well as a micro warpdrive.

I am wondering about that as my ships already are as crammed with mods as they can be. To take a mid module out to use an afterburner ? How many ships can do that ?

Too much time in space can wear down even the sharpest of minds. The constant monitoring of the space lanes, the threats that lurk aruond every corner, the battles and the ever watching eye on the scanners that announce enemy is inbound.

Eventualy the minds weakness shows. One such occation was the other night. Lying in my room looking at the steel walls I can see it from a more humorous perspective.

Once again I had been surveying the surrounding system of TDE. I investigated reports on hosile activity next to 020, in the 6YC system making sure that the fleet that were assembling was safe.

Every thing seemed to be going smooth untill the FC called for a cyno field in MGAM.

I quickly launched into a run for MGAM in order to put up a field.

As I spurred toward the destination reports started tickling in that TRI was one the move with a medium size fleet and most likely inbound for the MGAM system.

I arrived well a head of the TRI gang and in my haste I bought a beat up Merlin. The mechanics of the station looked very very wierd at me when I ordered it loaded up with Ozone and a cyno generator.

I promtly undocked and the last thing I heard as I headed out was the local docking communication ending with “…there wont be enough…”, I shrug it aside as whatever the little people in the docking areas thinks is of no consequence to a pod pilot.

I set off for the POS as the first of the TRI fleet entered the solar system. Thinking they were in for quite a surprise I activated the cyno field module… nothing. I willed it to activate and again… nothing.

A communication flashed up from the fleetcommander asking what in space I was doing and why I was not broardcasting a jump beacon.

That was when it hit me that I had never really trained the art of cyno fields to a large degree so the consumption of Ozone was huge when I tried to open it.

With hostiles now reported at the station I realised the hopeless situtaion. Our fleet was stuck in our home system, the hostiles free to roam and I was to blame.

I called up the regional maret interface and saw that next door there was a ship of desired design that could hold the amount of Ozone need to open the field.

I was sure the hostiles would have scouts on the gates but desided that since I had created such a mess it would be perfectly ok to loose a small ship and my clone. I made a quick dash to the next door system and back again to the POS without incident. Cursing my lack of attention all the way forth and back.

As I arrived back at the POS another more competent pilot opened a cyno field and our fleet jumped in. I was devastated.

While the fleet formed up and some still were jumping in a sole Sabre class Interdictor belonging to INZi showed up and was quickly killed.

The interdictors aligned for the station as well as the battleships with my insignificant ship in trail.

Carriers were undocked and were jammed at once, interdictor warp to the station and was shortly followed by the battleships. I warped in with the interdictor and ordered my ship pulled in by the docking crew.

I was promtly transfered to my Megathron battleship but could feel the moro from the hangar crew.

As I undocked from the hangar I entered battle at once.

The battle that followed must have been as frutrating to the enmy as it were to us. The TRI gang warped back and forth while activating their microwardrives making it hard to kill individual targets as they slipped in and out of range.

On their part our supperior remote repairing of the battleships kept our fleet alive as the enemy could not bring enough damage on any single ships for a longer period of time without risking their own ships.

Besides their fleet was outnumbered and outgunned so I was impressed they kept at it for som long as well as trying to begin with.

One of our ship had wandered off a bit and TRI was not slow to explot it and rammed their ships at full speed into our comrade. Their ships took massive damage to the structural integrity doing this and some exploded on impact with the metal beast piloted by Splagada.

Large version

The result was a loss for TRI but I can only assume they knew what they walked into.

As for myself I now have investigated the nature of cynofields and will not make the mistake again.
